Greenhouse Production Assistant

Work Location: Durham County, NC

Summary:

Seeking an individual passionate about horticulture to support plant growth and production activities. The role involves hands-on work with plants, following detailed protocols, and maintaining high standards of plant care and organization. Flexibility, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are essential for success.

Responsibilities:

• Perform planting, maintenance, and harvesting of plant inventory, including seed preparation, sowing, transplanting, and workspace sanitation.
• Monitor and ensure traceability of plant inventory throughout the growing cycle, maintaining accurate records.
• Follow detailed protocols and instructions to achieve consistent, high-quality results in plant care and production.
• Collect and accurately input plant growth data into designated data systems.
• Manage daily and weekly workload, both independently and as part of a team, to meet project goals.
• Conduct plant handling tasks such as watering, pruning, pest scouting, pollination, and discarding as needed.
• Support multiple projects by adapting to changing priorities and providing assistance where required.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety guidelines and best practices.

Qualifications:

• Experience growing plants in containers or greenhouse production in academic, agricultural, or nursery settings.
• High school diploma with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or AA/AS in biology, plant science, botany, agronomy, horticulture, or related field with 1+ year of relevant experience.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.
• Experience maintaining accurate records using databases and lab notebooks.
• Ability to work under varied environmental conditions.
• Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with strong attention to detail and record-keeping.
• Knowledge of laboratory or greenhouse safety practices, including PPE, SDSs, and proper waste handling (preferred).
• Experience with berries or row crops (preferred).
